Aro Fluid Power (IR Aro) Ingersoll-Rand Fluid
Products
January 23, 2000 marked the 70th
anniversary of the industrial equipment manufacturer known 'round the
world as ARO. Seven decades of diversity in both products and markets
have brought this company from a regional producer of automotive
bearing packers to a global force in both fluid handling pumps and
fluid power motion control components.
John Markey founded The Aro Equipment
Corporation on January 23, 1930 in Bryan, Ohio. Early products
included lubrication equipment, hand tools, and couplers. The Aro
Equipment Corporation gradually expanded, and on July 15, 1940 the
common stock of the company was admitted for trading on the American
Stock Exchange, and in 1960 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Over the next few decades, the company
significantly expanded its product offering, adding valves, cylinders,
and air system components in the 1960s. During this decade, the name
of the company was shortened to the Aro Corporation. In the early
1980s, Aro introduced their successful line of air-operated diaphragm
pumps.
Ingersoll-Rand purchased Aro in 1990,
and changed the name to Ingersoll-Rand Fluid Products. In the late
1990's, IR added Waterjet and Johnstone companies to the Fluid
Products Division (IR acquired Waterjet in the late 1980's). Today,
Ingersoll-Rand Fluid Products, now known simply as IR ARO, is
positioned to provide a vast array of solutions for industrial
manufacturing applications.
