Can this Vickers pump handle the kind of dirty hydraulic fluid we get sometimes in our older machines?

Designed with Buna-N seals, this Vickers V Series vane pump is well-suited for standard petroleum-based hydraulic fluids. Keep in mind that "dirty" fluid can still impact longevity, so filtration is always a good idea.

What kind of hydraulic fluid does this pump take, and will it hold up running petroleum-based oil day in and day out?

Buna-N seals are what's in this pump, and that material is well matched to standard petroleum-based hydraulic fluids. For shops or job sites running conventional hydraulic oil, that seal choice holds up fine under regular use. Just keep in mind that Buna-N isn't the right fit for synthetic or water-based fluids, so if your system runs anything outside of petroleum-based oil, you'd want to look at a different seal configuration.
