So, with the Buna-N seals, what kind of hydraulic fluid can I run through this thing?

We run a press line that needs tight flow control, and I keep hearing about proportional valves but ain't totally sure what sets a direct-acting one apart from the others. How does this Vickers unit actually work in that kind of setup?
