what kind of seal does this valve use, and does that hold up alright with standard hydraulic fluid?

Buna-N seals are what you get with this one, and that material holds up well with most conventional petroleum-based hydraulic fluids. It's a common seal choice in industrial hydraulic work for good reason. Won't give you trouble under typical operating conditions.
