flow rate on this thing is listed at 284 liters per minute -- is that enough for most standard pressure relief setups on mid-size hydraulic systems?

For a good chunk of mid-size hydraulic circuits, 284 liters per minute gives you plenty of headroom. Pressure relief valves in that flow class typically handle the demand you'd see on equipment running moderate-duty cycles without getting choked down. Just make sure your circuit's peak flow doesn't push past that ceiling, because sizing a relief valve too close to its rated flow can cause unstable pressure regulation.
