Will this fitting work with regular NPT threads, or does it need to be NPTF specifically?

The NPTF, or National Pipe Taper Fuel, threads are designed to create a pressure-tight seal when assembled, which is different from standard NPT threads. So, you'll want to make sure you're using NPTF threads with this coupling.
