Description & Features

Designed for load control in mobile and industrial hydraulic circuits, the 1SE90 Series Counterbalance Cartridge Valve is a three-port, externally piloted, screw-in cartridge valve suited for harvesters, refuse haulers, and similar demanding applications. It prevents load runaway and provides hose failure safety by metering flow as it passes the poppet, ensuring gradual, controlled movement under varying load conditions.

Factory set at 3,045 PSI within a working range of 2,537–5,075 PSI, this valve handles up to 23 GPM and supports a maximum load-induced pressure of 4,000 PSI. The 4:1 pilot ratio makes it well suited for applications where the load remains relatively constant. Adjustment is via screw with locknut, and the nitrile seal construction supports an operating temperature range of -22°F to +194°F. Installation requires a machined T2A Sun cavity; torque to 44 ft-lbs in any mounting position. Recommended filtration is ISO level 18/16/13 microns.

Can this handle the kind of pressure you get on a refuse truck, when you're compacting stuff?

Intended uses include refuse haulers. This valve has a maximum relief pressure of 5000 psi. Just be sure your system is running within that range.

what's the pressure range on this valve and can the factory setting be adjusted if I need something different for my application?

Factory set at 3045 PSI, the adjustment range runs from 2537 up to 5075 PSI. The screw and locknut design lets you dial it in without pulling the whole unit. Just loosen the locknut, turn the screw to where you need it, and lock it back down. Worth noting that any pressure above 3000 PSI requires a steel housing, so make sure your setup accounts for that before pushing it toward the top of the range.

got a load that likes to run away on the way down, is this the kind of valve that’ll keep it in check if a hose lets go?

Built for load control, the 1SE90 counterbalance (overcenter) cartridge meters flow out of the actuator so the load cannot overrun the pump flow. When it’s close-coupled to the actuator, it also helps stop runaway in a hose burst situation, giving load holding and hose failure safety.
