got a hose sitting right at about 5/16 inch diameter -- will this clamp actually get a solid grip on something that size, or do i need to size up?

At 5/16 inch nominal size, that hose falls right in the middle of the 0.276 to 0.354 inch clamping range, so you're in good shape. The sweet spot with these Oetiker 2-ear clamps is having enough material to work with so the second ear doesn't fully close out. When you install it, close the first ear all the way down, then bring the second ear in until the first one opens back up just a hair, roughly 1/16 inch gap. That spring-like tension is what gives you a secure, tamper-proof hold against pressure and vibration over time.

i’ve got a hose that measures right around 5/16. is this clamp gonna fit it or am i gonna be fighting it
