Question by: Roger R on Nov 13, 2025, 8:29 PM
how do you properly close the ears on one of these clamps? heard you ain't supposed to do both at the same time but not sure on the right way to go about it
Answer by: Customer Support on Nov 15, 2025, 7:00 AM
Close one ear all the way first, then move to the second ear. When you close that second one, the first ear should open back up just a little, roughly a 1/16 inch gap. That slight spring-back is actually what you want. It builds tension into the clamp so it can flex against vibration, pressure changes, and hose shrinkage over time. If both ears close all the way with no gap at all, that's a sign the clamp is too big for the hose you're working with and you'd need to drop down to the next smaller size.
Question by: Pete T on May 2, 2025, 8:44 AM
got a hose that measures right around 7/8 inch, is this clamp the right size or am i gonna fight it
Answer by: Customer Support on May 3, 2025, 6:52 PM
You want the hose outside diameter to land in the clamp’s clamping range of 0.787 to 0.905 inch. The nominal size is 0.875 inch, so a hose that’s about 7/8 inch OD is right in the window.
Question by: Hugh C on Jun 2, 2025, 2:53 PM
How do you properly install one of these? I want to make sure I get a good seal.
Answer by: Customer Support on Jun 4, 2025, 6:06 AM
These Oetiker 2-ear clamps are best installed by fully closing one ear first. Then, close the other ear, leaving a small gap of about 1/16 inch. This creates a spring-like action for a secure hold against pressure, vibration, and hose shrinkage.
