Will this fitting work with standard NPT threads?

It's designed with one NPTF end, which should be compatible with standard NPT threads. The other end is NPSM.

does this adapter work going from a 3/8 female swivel on one end to a 1/2 female pipe thread on the other, or did i get that backwards?

You've got it right. One end is a 3/8 NPSM female swivel connection and the other is a 1/2 NPTF female pipe thread. That straight configuration lets you join those two thread types without additional fittings in between.

got a 3/8 female swivel on one side and need to tie into 1/2 pipe thread, is this the right adapter?
