does this fitting work with standard 3/4 push lock hose, or do i need something special to get it to connect up right?

Push lock hose in 3/4 inch size is exactly what this barb end is built for. The hose barb side follows ISO 12151, so as long as your hose matches that sizing, it should seat and lock without any adapters or extra hardware in between.
