got a hose with a #6 JIC female on one side and a 1/2-14 NPTF port on the other. is this the straight adapter for that?

For that hookup, yes. One end is a #6 Male JIC 37 degree flare with 9/16-18 threads, and the other end is a Male NPTF with 1/2-14 threads, in a straight steel body.
