got a JIC fitting on one end of my hose assembly and a 3/8 NPT port on the equipment, this the right adapter to bridge them two together?

That's what this one's built for. One end carries a 7/8-14 male JIC SAE 37-degree flare, which hooks up to your JIC fitting, and the other end is a 3/8-18 male NPTF thread for the port side. Both ends meet their respective SAE specs, J514 on the JIC side and J476 on the NPTF side, so the connection is standard all the way through.
