does this adapter work as a fixed connection or can the angle be adjusted after installation?

Fixed all the way. The non-adjustable end means once it's installed, the orientation is set. That 90-degree angle between the #16 MJ and #12 FP ports is locked in, so you'll want to make sure your line routing is planned out before you torque it down.
