Can this pump actually run in both directions, or is that something you gotta have set at the factory?

Field reversible means you can change the rotation direction yourself without sending it back anywhere. It's set up so the direction can be swapped out on-site to match whatever your application calls for, which saves a good bit of time when you're fitting it into an existing setup.
