we run this pump on a dump truck application, does that cast iron housing hold up alright when things get dirty and rough out in the field?

Cast iron is a solid choice for that kind of work. It handles vibration and harsh conditions better than lighter housing materials, and this pump was specifically built with dump truck use in mind.
