got a 5/16 hose barb line and a port that’s 7/16-20 ORB. is this the right straight adapter for that?

For that combo, yes. One end is a 5/16 inch tube OD hose barb and the other end is a 7/16-20 Male SAE O-Ring Boss thread built to SAE J514, with an NBR o-ring seal.
