This Eaton Char-Lynn 4CK30 Series Single Pilot Operated Cartridge Check Valve is designed to lock a cylinder without leakage when the control valve is in a neutral position. Functioning as a check valve, it allows flow to the cylinder and blocks reverse flow until pilot pressure is applied to unlock the circuit. This valve is ideal for preventing load movement when the pressure source is inactive, and a 4-way control valve is required for all lock valve circuits.
With a 29 PSI cracking pressure and nitrile seals, this cartridge check valve provides high operational efficiency and low spring settings. It is rated up to 5000 PSI and 8 GPM, and requires a cleanliness level of 19/13 or better. The pilot ratio is 3:1, with a temperature range of -22° to +194°F.

got a cylinder that likes to drift when the control valve is centered. is this the kind of valve that’ll lock it in place?
Answer by: Customer Support on Jun 27, 2025, 12:30 PM
In a lock valve circuit, a single pilot operated check like the 4CK30 is used to hold a cylinder without leakage while the control valve is in neutral. It lets flow go to the cylinder, then blocks reverse flow until pilot pressure is applied to unlock it, which helps keep a load from moving when the pressure source is inactive.

got a cylinder on a loader that keeps drifting when the control valve's in neutral -- would this valve fix that?
Answer by: Customer Support on Jul 15, 2025, 8:11 AM
Lock valves like this one are built exactly for that situation. When the control valve goes to neutral, the 4CK30 blocks reverse flow out of the cylinder with no leakage, holding the load in place. Flow can still pass through to the cylinder normally, but nothing comes back until pilot pressure is applied to release it. One thing worth knowing: a 4-way control valve is required in the circuit, even on single-acting setups, so the pilot can get the pressure it needs to unlock. Also make sure your control valve uses a free-flow (motor) spool. That prevents pressure from building up between the lock valve and the control valve, which can cause problems in service.
Question by: Troy B on Jun 11, 2025, 4:52 PM
Can this cartridge valve handle some pretty serious pressure? I'm workin' with a system that gets up there.
Answer by: Customer Support on Jun 13, 2025, 12:05 PM
This 4CK30 series valve is rated for a maximum operating pressure of 5000 PSI, so it should handle high-pressure applications.
