corrosion's always been a problem with the fittings we run outdoors, what kind of protection does this one have?

Dura-Kote plating is applied to this fitting specifically to hold up against corrosion over the long haul. Carbon steel on its own can be a weak point in outdoor or wet environments, but that plating puts a meaningful barrier between the metal and whatever it's exposed to.
