What's the deal with the different ends? I see M26 and M22. Is that right?

That's correct. This fitting has a M26 X 1.5 DIN tube connection on one side and a M22 X 1.5 metric thread on the other, both male.

got a tight spot on a hydraulic line, is this the kind of 90 elbow that helps turn the hose without a bunch of extra length?
