Got a line running to a side port and the fittings don't match up size-wise. Would this take care of a 1-1/2 JIC inlet down to a 1-1/4 JIC on the outlet side?

That's exactly what it does. The inlet is 1-1/2 JIC and the outlet side port is 1-1/4 JIC, so it handles both the size reduction and the directional change in one fitting. Both ends use the 37-degree flare, which gives you a solid, leak-resistant connection on each side. If your lines are JIC on both ends and you need that size step-down going into a side port, this fitting covers it.
