thread on the JIC side is 9/16-18, does that swivel freely or is it fixed once you torque it down?

The JIC end on this fitting is a swivel type, so it stays rotatable until you fully seat and tighten it. That's the whole point of the swivel design, lets you line up your hose or tube without twisting the line during assembly. Once torqued, it locks in place. The 37-degree flare seats against a matching flare on the mating component, which is your standard JIC connection per SAE J514.

Wondering if this fitting will work with my setup. I got a 1/2 NPTF and need to connect to a 9/16 JIC.

got a hose end that’s 9/16-18 JIC swivel, will this straight adapter mate up with it and what’s on the other side?

On the JIC side, it has a female JIC swivel with a 37 degree flare in 9/16-18 (SAE J514). The other end is a female NPTF pipe thread in 1/2-14 (SAE J476), so it’s meant to connect a 9/16-18 JIC male flare to a 1/2-14 NPTF male pipe thread.
