got a piece of equipment running JIC on the hydraulic line but the manifold block on the other end is BSPP, will this adapter work to bridge those two?

That's exactly the use case this fitting covers. One end is a 3/4-16 UNF male JIC and the other is a G 1/2-14 male BSPP, so it connects a JIC line directly to a BSPP port without any intermediate pieces.
