Got a machine here running 3/4 NPT ports and the component I'm hooking into has a 1/2 BSPP female port on it. This fitting bridge that gap straight across?

Yeah, that's exactly what this one's for. The male end is 3/4-14 NPTF, which threads right into your NPT port, and the female swivel side accepts a 1/2 BSPP connection at G 1/2-14. Straight profile, so no angle change in the line routing. The size step-down from 3/4 to 1/2 is built into the fitting itself, so no additional reducer needed at that junction.

trying to hook a 3/4 npt port to a g 1/2 bspp hose end, is this the right adapter?
