Both ends on this thing are 3/8 BSPP, one male, one female, so would it work for extending an existing BSPP fitting out a bit further on a port?

That's what it's built for. One end is male BSPP and the other is female BSPP, both G 3/8 - 19, so you can thread it onto an existing male BSPP port and gain some additional reach. trying to hook a 3/8 BSPP male line into a 3/8 BSPP female port, is this bushing the right deal?

For a straight BSPP to BSPP connection, it matches what you described. Side 1 is G 3/8 - 19 male and Side 2 is G 3/8 - 19 female, both 3/8 inch BSPP.
