got a line running M16 x 1.5 female on one end and M12 x 1.5 female on the other, does this coupling bridge those two sizes straight through?

That's what this one does. Side 1 is M16 x 1.5 female and Side 2 is M12 x 1.5 female, so it steps down between those two metric thread sizes in a single straight fitting.
