Will this elbow work with standard BSPP fittings, or is there something special about it?

It's made to fit standard BSPP (British Standard Parallel Pipe) threads on one side, specifically G 1/2 - 14, so you shouldn't have any trouble connecting it to other fittings with the same standard. The other side uses a 9/16 - 18 UNF JIC connection.

Got a line running JIC on one end and BSPP on the other, does this fitting actually handle both those thread types in one piece, or do I need an adapter in between?

Both standards are covered in a single fitting here. One end is JIC with a 9/16-18 UNF thread, sized for 3/8 inch line, and the other end is male BSPP with a G 1/2-14 thread for a 1/2 inch connection. No intermediate adapter needed. The 90 degree elbow body handles the thread transition and the directional change at the same time, which keeps the hydraulic connections cleaner and cuts down on potential leak points.
