these back-up rings stretch for install and then snap back to size -- how forgiving is that process if you're working in tight quarters with limited hand room?

Urethane has a fair amount of natural give to it, so stretching these over a groove is pretty manageable even when space is limited. The 90A durometer material is firm enough to hold its shape under pressure but flexible enough that you're not fighting it during installation. Once seated, it returns to its original dimensions quickly, so you're not left trying to coax it into position. Just make sure the groove matches the corresponding O-ring dash size, since these are sized to those standards.
