what exactly is the "Part C" on this kuriyama coupler, is that just the style name or does it mean something specific about how it connects?

Part C refers to the coupler half in a two-part quick-connect system. The Part C is the female coupler body that mates with a corresponding Part E nipple. Kuriyama follows a standard aluminum cam-and-groove naming convention where each letter designates a specific end configuration, so Part C means one end is a plain hose shank and the other accepts the cam arms of the matching nipple.
