fitting says it works with AQP and StartLite hose, just wanna make sure, is the -12 size the hose end or the port end?

The -12 refers to the hose end size, so you'd be matching this to a -12 AQP or StartLite racing hose. The port side connects via a female JIC 37-degree flare swivel. Those are two different ends serving two different functions, so as long as your hose is -12 and your mating fitting runs JIC 37-degree flare, you're set up right.
