got a 1/4 npt port on the bottom, is that what this gauge threads into or am i missing something?

For fitment, it uses a 1/4 NPT male bottom connection, so it threads into a matching 1/4 NPT female port.

gauge says it goes to 30Hg vacuum -- is that the full range or just one side of a dual scale?

Full vacuum range on this one. It reads from 0 to 30 inches of mercury on the Hg scale, which also corresponds to 0 to negative 1.0 bar. Both scales are on the same dial showing the same range, just in different units. There's no positive pressure side to this gauge -- it's strictly a vacuum measurement instrument.
