what hose size does this ferrule work with, and will the .88 ID actually match up right when I go to crimp it?

For a 1/2-inch hose, the 0.88-inch inner diameter is the correct fit. The ID is sized to seat around that hose before crimping, and the 0.875-inch length gives you enough sleeve to get a solid bite without being so long it creates fitment issues on shorter fittings.
