got a 3/8 inch ID hose. is this the right barb size, and what thread is on the other end?

It is made for a 0.375 inch hose ID on the barb side, and the threaded end is 1/4-18 female NPT.

fitting's made from brass, so I'm guessing it's alright for general fluid lines? what kind of work is this thing actually built for?
