got a hydraulic tank that “breathes” when the cylinders move, what’s this D-108 breather actually doing for me?

When your reservoir level rises and falls from cylinder actuation or temperature swings, it has to pull air in and push air out. The Schroeder D-108 is there to filter the incoming air so airborne dirt and moisture are less likely to get into the tank and contaminate the hydraulic fluid, which helps slow down wear on components.
