Does this fitting have a check valve or thread sealant included, or is it pretty much just the adapter by itself?

No check valve and no thread sealant come with it. It's a straight adapter connecting 3/8 NPTF on one end to M22 on the other, nothing extra built in. That setup actually works better for certain professional configurations where adding those components separately gives you more control over the connection.
