Does this tee need any kind of thread sealant or check valve to work right, or is it good to go as-is?

No sealant or check valve needed. The FS2704-LN-06-06-06-FG is built to connect without either of those, which keeps the install pretty straightforward and cuts down on the number of extra parts you gotta track down.
