Will this filter work okay if I need to hook it up as part of a bigger setup with other air tools?

It's made to work either by itself or hooked up with other modular units. Screws and o-rings come with it to make connecting it easier.

filter says 5 micron but does it actually pull moisture out too, or is that a separate thing i'd need?

Water removal is built into the particulate filter function. At rated flow, this unit pulls out more than 90% of moisture along with dust and debris. That said, if you're running equipment that's sensitive to any oil contamination, you'd want to add a coalescing filter downstream, since this one handles particulates and water but isn't rated for oil removal. For general air line cleanup though, the 5 micron element covers the moisture side well.
