does this hose hold up alright for pulling water out of a pond or tank, or is it just meant for pushing water through?

Both suction and discharge are covered with this one. It's rated for water suction and discharge, so you can run it either direction without issue. The 1-ply braid construction and PVC tube handle the demands of pulling from a water source just as well as pumping out. Minimum working temp is -20 degrees, so cold morning startups shouldn't give you trouble either.
