what's the thread spec on this fitting exactly, M10x1 meaning 10mm diameter with 1mm pitch?

You've got it right. M10x1 means a 10 millimeter outer diameter with a 1 millimeter thread pitch. That's a metric fine thread, so make sure whatever you're threading it into matches both of those measurements.
