This straight fitting adapts between BSPP and NPT thread types. It has a G 1/2 - 14 male BSPP end and a 1/4 - 18 NPTF male end.

Got a piece of equipment running a G 1/2 BSPP port and I need to tie it into a 1/4 NPT line, this the right fitting for that?

That's what this one's built for. One end is a G 1/2 - 14 male BSPP thread and the other is a 1/4 - 18 NPTF male. So if your equipment has a female BSPP port and your line terminates in a female NPT connection, this nipple bridges those two right up. Just make sure both receiving ends are female, since both sides of this fitting are male.

trying to hook a british pipe thread port up to an npt line, is this the right adapter?

For that situation, it matches a G 1/2 - 14 male BSPP thread on one end and a 1/4 - 18 NPTF male thread on the other, in a straight steel nipple style.
