Description & Features

A pilot-operated, spool-type screw-in cartridge design, the PRV2-16 Series Pilot-Operated Pressure Reducing (Relieving) Cartridge Valve is factory set at 3500 PSI within an adjustable range of 1000–6000 PSI, making it well suited for mobile and industrial hydraulic circuits including harvesters and refuse haulers. The valve is normally open, passing flow from port 2 to port 1; when pressure at port 1 reaches the set point, the spool shifts to restrict inlet flow and regulate downstream pressure. Excess pressure is relieved through port 3, which must be vented to reservoir.

Rated for flows up to 40 GPM and a maximum system pressure of 5000 PSI across all ports, this three-port cartridge installs into a C-16-3 cavity housing (sold separately). Buna-N seals support a working temperature range of -40°F to 248°F. Recommended hydraulic fluid cleanliness is ISO 4406 level 18/16/13 or cleaner. Note that pressures above 3000 PSI require a steel housing.

Can this valve handle pressures up to 5000 PSI without a steel housing?

No, pressures over 3000 PSI require a steel housing for this valve. That's a must to keep things safe and working right.

factory set at 3500 but the job calls for something closer to 4500 PSI -- is that something you can dial in with the screw adjustment or is it locked from the factory?

The screw adjustment on this valve lets you set pressure anywhere in the 1000 to 6000 PSI range, so dialing up to 4500 is well within what it can handle. Just keep in mind that anything above 3000 PSI requires a steel housing. The cavity size is C-16-3, sold separately, so make sure whatever housing you're sourcing is rated for the pressure you're running.
