RSS Series Cylinder, 10 Ton, Inch Rod, Inch Stroke

Description & Features

The SPX Hydraulic Technologies RSS Series Cylinder is a 10-ton capacity cylinder designed for use in confined areas requiring only 3.5" to 11.2" of clearance. The RSS Series Cylinder features a bronze-plated piston rod and gland nut that resist scoring and corrosion.

A heavy-duty return spring provides fast piston return and a low collapsed height. The grooved piston top keeps the load from sliding, and the cylinder can be "dead-ended" at full capacity.

Got a tight spot on a press frame where I need maybe 4 inches of clearance tops, this thing gonna fit in there and still do the job?
Answer by: Customer Support on Dec 15, 2025, 6:27 AM
Four inches puts you right in the working range for this cylinder. It needs between 3.5 and 5 inches of clearance to operate, so you're cutting it close but it should fit. At 10 tons of rated capacity and a 2.24 square inch effective area running at 10,000 PSI, it'll have plenty of force for most press work in that kind of tight space. The grooved top on the piston also helps keep your workpiece from walking around on you, which matters when you don't have a lot of room to work with.

tight spot job here, how much clearance do i really need to get this 10 ton shorty cylinder in there?
Answer by: Customer Support on Jul 27, 2025, 1:46 PM
For confined setups, it’s meant to work in spaces that only have about 3.5 inches up to roughly 11.2 inches of clearance, depending on where you are in the stroke.
