The SPX Hydraulic Technologies RSS Series Cylinder is a 50-ton capacity cylinder with an inch rod and inch stroke.
This single-acting cylinder is ideal for confined areas from 3 1/2" to 11 7/16" clearance. The RSS Series Cylinder features bronze-plated piston rods and gland nuts that resist scoring and corrosion. A heavy-duty return spring provides fast piston return and low collapsed height. The coupler on 10 thru 50-ton models is angled upward 5° for added clearance. The grooved piston top keeps the load from sliding, and cylinders can be “dead-ended” at full capacity.

Question by: Travis C on Aug 8, 2025, 8:14 AM
What kinda clearance do I need around this thing to make it work right?
Answer by: Customer Support on Aug 9, 2025, 12:08 PM
Ideal applications provide between 3 1/2" to 11 7/16" of clearance. Its compact design allows for effective use in tight spots.
Question by: Chad R on Jul 31, 2025, 12:17 PM
Got a tight spot I'm working in, maybe 4 inches of clearance to start. This 50-ton unit gonna fit in there and still do the job?
Answer by: Customer Support on Aug 1, 2025, 5:11 PM
Clearance that tight is right in the wheelhouse for this cylinder. The RSS502 is built for confined spaces anywhere from 3.5 inches up to about 11 and 7/16 inches, so 4 inches puts you well within range. The low collapsed height and heavy-duty return spring are part of what makes it practical in those kinds of situations. The grooved piston top also helps keep your load from shifting once you've got it positioned, which matters a lot when you're working with limited room to maneuver.

got a tight spot to work in. how much clearance does this 50 ton ram need when it’s collapsed and when it’s fully extended?
Answer by: Customer Support on Nov 28, 2025, 9:36 PM
For tight clearances, this RSS502 is meant for confined areas from 3 1/2 inches up to 11 7/16 inches of clearance. The extended height is 7.375 inches, and it uses a heavy duty return spring to help keep the collapsed height low.
