What size element do I need to leave room for when I'm swapping these out? I don't have a ton of space in the tank.

Element change clearance depends on the specific filter configuration you're using. The 1K needs 8 inches, the KK needs 17.5 inches, and the 27K requires 26.5 inches of clearance. So measure your space and match it to the right filter.
