Does this valve need any kind of thread sealant applied before installation, or does it come ready to thread in?

No sealant is included or required by the valve itself. The design leaves that choice to the installer, so you can apply whatever tape or compound you'd normally use for NPT fittings in your setup. The 3/8 NPT thread is standard, so it'll mate up with any compatible NPT port without any special prep beyond what you'd do on any other threaded connection.
