You will need to apply your own tape or pipe dope. Midland Industries ships these schedule 80 black carbon steel nipples completely bare with zero thread sealant applied.

Got a close nipple situation on a half-inch line and need something that ain't gonna back out on me under pressure. This the right fit?
Answer by: Customer Support on Feb 4, 2026, 7:03 PM
For a 1/2-inch line, the threading here is 1/2-14 Male NPT, which is the standard thread count for that pipe size. Schedule 80 wall thickness is built for higher-pressure service compared to standard Schedule 40, so it holds up better in demanding runs. At 1.13 inches long, it qualifies as a close nipple, meaning there's minimal unthreaded steel between the two sets of threads. No sealant comes pre-applied, so you pick whatever thread compound or tape works best for your specific fluid and pressure conditions.

Will this nipple work with standard 1/2" NPT fittings?
Answer by: Customer Support on Aug 19, 2025, 5:56 PM
Absolutely, the 1/2-14 Male NPT threading on this pipe nipple ensures it'll fit securely with any standard 1/2" NPT fitting.
