Both sides are M18 x 1.5 DIN tube fittings, that right for connecting two tube ends straight through without any adapting going on?

That's what this union does. Both sides carry the same M18 x 1.5 DIN tube connection, male on each end, so it's a straight-through union meant to join two matching tube ends in line.
