trying to plug a G 1/2 - 14 bspP port, is this the right thread for that?

For thread fit, it matches a G 1/2 - 14 BSPP male connection, so it’s meant to screw into a port with that BSPP thread.

What size wrench do I need to get this plug seated proper?

A 27mm wrench is what you want for this one. The hex flat is cut to that size, so as long as you've got a 27mm in your set you won't have any trouble getting it torqued down.
