the elbow is built right into the fitting itself, so the 45-degree turn is handled at the connection point. No extra adapter needed for that angle. It's particularly handy when you're working in a tight spot and a straight fitting just won't clear the surrounding hardware. The swivel feature also lets you rotate the JIC end during installation, which makes lining everything up a whole lot easier without having to twist the hose itself.
