Got a brake line on an older piece of equipment that runs a 3/8-24 inverted flare fitting, would this adapter let me tie into a JIC -04 line off the same system?

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of transition this fitting handles. One end is a -04 male JIC with a 37 degree flare, and the other is a 3/8-24 female with a 42 degree inverted flare. So if your brake line side is the inverted flare and your hydraulic supply side is JIC, this straight adapter connects them directly without any intermediate fittings.

Yes. One end is a 3/8-24 female 42 degree inverted flare for the brake line, and the other end is a -04 male JIC 37 degree flare to mate with a -04 JIC female swivel hose end.
